Equality & Diversity Support Service

 


Our Equality & Diversity Support Service, is a dedicated initiative designed to ensure inclusive and equitable support for individuals in the prison and probation system. Commissioned by HMPPS, we work across prisons and probation services in England and Wales, promoting equality and addressing the unique needs of diverse populations.


Our Services Include:

  • Dedicated Freephone Support Number: Accessible support available via a freephone number, ensuring immediate assistance and guidance.
  • Lived Experience Peer-Mentoring: Peer mentors with lived experience providing valuable insights and support to help navigate challenges.
  • Chaperon Service: Offering chaperon services to ensure safety and comfort during necessary appointments and activities.
  • Emergency Welfare Support: Immediate assistance and intervention for urgent welfare needs.
  • Initial 28-Day 'Prison Check In' Support: Dedicated support during the first 28 days in prison to assist with adjustment and well-being.
  • 12-Week Prison 'Check-Out' Support: Comprehensive support during the 12 weeks leading up to release to prepare for a successful transition back into the community.


Our Impact:

We are committed to influencing the wider system and delivering effective community and custody support programmes across Devon & Cornwall and South Wales. Our initiatives include:

  • Staff Forums and Ethnically Diverse People in prison Meetings: Facilitating discussions and support at HMP Dartmoor, Channings Wood, Guys Marsh, Portland & Exeter prisons.
  • Discrimination Incident Reporting Form Reviews: Regularly reviewing Discrimination Incident Reporting Forms to ensure accountability and address issues of discrimination effectively.
